A solar eclipse will be visible on Wednesday. Seeing one is on my bucket list so I'm looking forward to it. I've bought some eclipse glasses which should arrive by Tuesday morning. Other astronomy-related items include seeing a meteor shower or comet, and seeing the International Space Station (which is visible daily but I've not managed to catch it.) I may pick up an inexpensive telescope for these two.
Well...I won't end up seeing a solar eclipse. For three reasons: one, it wasn't visible in Iowa! I misread the chart when I eyeballed it, and when I actually looked it up, no visibility here, I am too far south. Second reason, it is currently raining, and the sun is blocked by clouds. THIRD REASON, the eclipse glasses that I ordered with FedEx Priority Overnight on Sunday night, were shipped Monday morning, and should have been here yesterday (they were at a FedEx depot about an hour away Tuesday morning) and still haven't arrived yet. I assume they come sometime today, possibly after the eclipse has passed. What an adventure.
I saved my glasses from 2024's eclipse. Here in NYC we could see it clearly. It wasn't total; it looked as if the moon had taken a nice bite out of the edge of the sun.
Make sure to get your money back from FedEx. Tell them it absolutely, positively had to get there overnight, and it didn't.
