I think NACES membership implies a certain floor or minimum quality. That their evaluations are generally respected for transfer credit and similar doesn't hurt either. I think it's similar to accreditation in that way, the prestige comes from the recognition.

 

No. It is a trade group set up to serve its membership, not their customers. Worse, standards and practice are all over the place. Worse still, they don't function with oversight. You can't appeal a member's decision to them, no matter how wrong or even egregious the decision was.

 

Some employers policy:

A foreign bachelor's, master's, doctorate, etc. can be accepted, but when the degree is being used to satisfy an educational requirement for a position requires a U.S.-equivalency evaluation. Current recruitment notices state that the evaluation must be performed by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by either NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) or AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluators).
