    These "free" programs highlight the importance of using total cost of ownership as the means of comparison. For example, the "tuition free" Bachelor degree from University of the People has a total cost of ownership of $6,460. (That's still extremely good, yes! It's just not the zero that some might expect from their PR machine.)

    And if I'm reading correctly, High Point will allow you to earn a free master's if you commit to a 4 year bachelor's and then stay on campus an additional two years. Given these eye-watering numbers, after paying $184,000 they're giving you a "free" master's degree. Much better to get a solid education at an inexpensive community college or public 4-year with $30K in debt.

    But, in keeping with the spirit of this thread, Eastern University's MS in Data Science can be almost free if you get lucky. Each course requires Graduate Assistants. A GA gets a credit for another course. You can only be a GA while in the program. If you complete your first course and are eligible to GA it (and continue to do so), you could technically complete 10 courses but only pay for that first one.

    Quantic's MBA also had numerous 100% scholarships. I got one back when getting admitted guaranteed you a scholarship, but I still read regular stories online about people receiving them.

    In keeping with the TCO idea, though, the sticker price is rarely what traditional-aged college students pay for a residential program on campus. So that gets murkier.

    Still, I agree that for most people, Associate degree first and transfer to finish a Bachelor degree is a good starting point for planning.

    Just an attempt to keep enrollment numbers on campus going. Due to the nature of many colleges and universities closing, they are encouraging students to attend in-person classes to keep their campuses active. A clever marketing tactic, but to be honest, it's bad due to the amount of debt the student will incur for attending classes in person and living on campus.
